The Revival of an Ancient Women's Rural Institution
Ancient Hellenics paid tribute to goddess Dimitra and the Daughter and praised nature for its crops with “Thesmophoria”, a predominantly women’s festival dedicated to Dimitra and Persephone, her daughter.
Praising the earth and its fertility, the ancient Hellenics offered part of their crops’first harvest, the “aparches” (beginnings) to goddess Dimitra.
Reviving the festivals of Agriculture, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (MRDF) takes under its auspices the local festivals the country’s regions, promoting this way the local agricultural products and their unique flavours. Read more........
